Day 1 of Adult Safeguarding Week: Modern Slavery awareness

Published: Monday, 18 November 2019

National Safeguarding Adults Week, developed by the Ann Craft Trust aims to create a time where we can all focus on safeguarding adults - so we can be better, together.

Each day of Adult Safeguarding Week covers a different safeguarding topic. Day 1 focusses on Modern Slavery.

Modern Slavery covers a wide range of coercion and control of other people for the purposes of sexual, labour, financial or criminal exploitation, domestic servitude or organ harvesting.

Modern Slavery Police Transformation (MSPT) have created four posters to raise awareness of exploitation, victims, offenders and the different types of modern slavery. Further information can be found on the MSPT website.

If you or someone you know is being or at risk of being exploited, please tell someone. You can do this by contacting:

  • Telford & Wrekin Council's Family Connect Team on 01952 385385 from 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday, or the Emergency Duty Team on 01952 676500 after 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 24 hours at a weekend;
  • West Mercia Police if you want to report any incident or suspicions that you may have, and this can be done by ringing 101, which is the non-emergency tellephone number, or by visiting your local police station if you would prefer to speak to someone in person.

If it is an emergency or there is immediate danger, always ring 999.
